Senior officials escape unhurt in Uruzgan attacks

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The Ministry of Interior says that no government officials suffered casualties in last week’s suicide attacks in Uruzgan.

Multiple suicide attackers stormed several government buildings, including the governor's house,the Highway battalion and the Radio and Television building on Thursday, July 28 in Tirinkot.

According to local officials, 19 people including twopolice were killed in the attacks and another 35, including three police, injured.

Ahmad Omaid Khpalwak, the Pajhwok Afghan News reporter in the region, was also among those killed.

Zabiullah Mujaheed, the Talibaninfo-icon spokesman, said that 100 local and foreign soldiers had suffered casualties in the incident and claimed that the Highway commander, Matiullah Khan, and deputy governor Khudae Rahim were among those killed.

But Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi rejected those claims, saying that local officials had suffered no casualties in the attacks.

He added 21 people, including three policemen were killed and another 35, including three police, injured. He concluded that 10 children who had come to the governor's house to take national identity cards were among the casualties.
